Understanding the Euthanasia Process
The euthanasia process is designed to be a gentle and compassionate experience for both you and your beloved pet. Here’s a step-by-step overview of what to expect during your appointment with Dr. Cory:
Consultation:
Dr. Cory will take the time to discuss your pet’s condition, answer your questions, and ensure you feel supported and informed. This is also a moment to share your thoughts, memories, or concerns about your pet’s comfort and care.
Preparation:
You are encouraged to create a calm, peaceful space—whether that’s your living room, backyard, or your pet’s favorite spot. Dr. Cory will arrive with everything needed to ensure a smooth, respectful process.
Sedation:
To ensure your pet feels relaxed and safe, a gentle sedative is given first. This allows them to fall into a deep, restful sleep surrounded by love and familiarity.
Euthanasia:
Once your pet is fully relaxed and unaware, Dr. Cory will administer the final medication. This step is quick and peaceful, allowing your pet to pass away without pain or fear.

Aftercare Options
After your pet has peacefully passed, Dr. Cory will guide you through the aftercare process with compassion and clarity. We offer several options based on your wishes:
- Private Cremation (Ashes Returned): Your pet will be cremated individually, and their ashes can be returned to you via:
- Hand delivery to your home
- Mail delivery
- Pick-up from Abbey Glen Pet Memorial in Lafayette, NJ
- Communal Cremation (Ashes Not Returned): Your pet will be respectfully cremated alongside others, and no ashes will be returned.
- Owner-Arranged Aftercare: If you prefer to make your own aftercare arrangements, Dr. Cory will support you and help coordinate as needed.
Each choice is treated with the respect, care, and dignity—because we understand how much your companion meant to you, and how important it is to say goodbye in your own way.

Heartfelt Testimonials from Pet Owners
At Dr. Cory’s Guiding Light, we recognize the profound sorrow that accompanies the loss of a cherished pet. Here are some heartfelt testimonials from families who have experienced our compassionate in-home euthanasia services. Their stories reflect the comfort and dignity we strive to provide during this emotional time.
Dr. Korsgen was wonderful. We had an appointment scheduled for Tuesday and our dog Bailey’s health really declined Sunday night. When we asked if we could make our appointment sooner she not only agreed to come Monday but came hours earlier than we originally planned. She even had to make arrangements for her own family in order to accommodate us. We can’t thank her enough. It was heartbreaking watching our baby suffer and she really made a horrible situation a little more bearable.
Dr Cory has the most calming, caring, and professional aura about her. While this was one of the most difficult and sad decisions for us to make, she honestly made it so dignified and somehow beautiful situation. Her mannerisms kept our family ensured that our fur baby was ok, not in any pain and in a better place. Having this done at our home, at first seemed awkward but we all agreed how it was better for us and for our dog to be in a comfortable place surrounded by his family. Dr Cory did not make it uncomfortable whatsoever. She is for sure a pet angel.
Dr.Cory Korsgen was very kind and gentle helping our beloved family dog cross over the rainbow bridge. We chose to euthanize at home because our baby was always so scared at the vet office. We wanted to comfort him as a family in his last moments with us. The entire process was peaceful and made a difficult time for us a bit easier. We received his ashes a week later in a beautiful urn. Thank you for your help and kindness.
What happens during the euthanasia appointment?
The euthanasia process aims to be gentle and peaceful for both your pet and your family. When I arrive, I will discuss your pet’s condition. I’ll answer any questions and make sure you feel comfortable with the plan.
First, I will give a calming sedative. This helps your pet relax and often leads to a peaceful, sleepy state. Once your pet is calm, I will give the euthanasia solution. This step is quick and painless, allowing your pet to pass peacefully in your arms or beside you.
I will be with you throughout the process, offering support and comfort. Your pet will be treated with the utmost respect and compassion. You can stay by your pet’s side for as long as you wish. We will also guide you through the next steps, including aftercare options.
Can I be present during the procedure?
Many people stay to comfort their pets in their final moments. For some, this brings peace and closure. But for others, the emotional weight is too much, and that’s okay. Your pet has felt your love for a lifetime. Whether you are in the room or not, that bond stays strong. If you decide not to stay, I will be there. I will provide a calm, gentle presence so your pet is never alone. They will receive the same care and love you would give. Whatever you choose, it comes from love — and that’s what matters most.
Can my other pets be present?
Deciding whether to have other pets present during euthanasia is personal. There’s no right or wrong choice. Having other pets nearby can help them understand what’s happening. This may ease their confusion and reduce anxiety after their companion is gone. Animals often sense changes around them, and being present can give them closure.
However, some pets might feel anxious or upset. It’s crucial to think about their personalities. If they are calm and have a close bond, their presence can comfort everyone. I'm here to discuss your situation and help you choose what feels best for your family and pets.
What should I prepare for the appointment?
It's beneficial to create a quiet and comfortable space for your pet. You might want to gather their favorite toys or blankets to help create a soothing atmosphere. Dr. Cory will guide you on any additional preparations needed. What happens after the procedure?
After euthanasia, you'll have time to say goodbye and spend a few moments with your pet. When you're ready, we'll handle your pet with respect and dignity, making sure they're treated with the utmost care. Then, we'll discuss your aftercare options, including individual or communal cremation, and other memorial services. If you choose individual cremation, we'll return your pet's ashes to you in a personalized urn or keepsake. We also offer memorial services, such as paw prints or fur clippings, for those who want to cherish their pet's memory.
